The 1980 BMW M1 AHG Studie features the best of what BMW had to offer to the racing class.  The standard BMW M1 featured a modest 3.5L V6 engine with 273 hp at its command.  The racing class M1’s were given the works by comparison, featuring a turbocharged engine pushing 850 hp under the pedal.  This BMW and the other racer M1’s were built for the track, but some owners kept them stock for a street legal experience. Beyond performance alone, the 1980 BMW M1 AHG Studie is loved for its design as well.  Another BMW M1 was painted by Andy Warhol as one of the most iconic BMW Art Cars ever created.  It comes from a distinct time in automotive design where cars were boxy and sharp, eschewing curves and nuance for bold and unforgiving angles.  Looking back, there’s a love-it/hate-it phenomenon with the boxy styling of its era, but we wouldn’t be featuring it here if we didn’t love it. The 1980 BMW M1 AHG Studie will join a curated collection of cars to be auctioned off at the RM Auctions Monterey Auction this summer.  There’s no word on where bidding will start for this rare M1, but this example of automotive art will certainly not come cheap.
